Claude Opus 5 Is Here: Pricing, Limits, and What to Do When You Hit the Weekly Cap

Claude Opus 5 launched on July 25, 2026 (API pricing $5 per million input tokens, $25 per million output), and Claude subscriptions still enforce a rolling 5-hour window plus a 7-day weekly cap. When you hit either limit, the free ChatMigrate extension can move your conversation to ChatGPT, Gemini, or Grok so you keep working instead of waiting.

Anthropic shipped Claude Opus 5 on July 25, 2026, and it immediately became the model to beat on high-end reasoning scorecards. API pricing landed at $5 per million input tokens and $25 per million output — notably cheaper than OpenAI's flagship GPT-5.6 Sol tier at $30 output.

For subscribers, the limit system has two layers: a rolling 5-hour window that resets continuously and guards against short bursts, and the 7-day weekly cap (introduced August 2025) that guards against sustained heavy use. Anthropic has been loosening both — 5-hour limits were permanently doubled in May 2026, and weekly limits are running 50% higher through August 19, 2026 for Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise.

Even with the raises, the weekly cap is the one that hurts, because it can land mid-project with days left before reset. No amount of patience budgeting helps when the work is due now.

The economically sane answer is rarely upgrading tiers — Max-class plans jump into the hundreds per month. The better move for most people is horizontal: a second $20 subscription (or even a free tier) on a platform with a separate reset clock.

The historical blocker was context. Your week of architecture decisions, constraints, and half-finished reasoning lives inside Claude, and re-explaining it to ChatGPT used to burn 15 minutes and still lose nuance.

ChatMigrate removes that blocker: one click captures your active Claude conversation and re-establishes it in ChatGPT, Gemini, or Grok with structure preserved, so the weekly cap becomes a platform switch instead of a work stoppage.

Opus 5 is worth being capped by — it is that good. But the best setup in August 2026 is Opus 5 as your primary with a pre-wired escape route, so Anthropic's clock never decides your deadline.
